It’s been a while, I know. Every time I clicked on ‘new post,’ I’ve stared at the little white box, all the while clicking away in hopes of coming back later with something insightful to say. Alas, I have nothing insightful; however, I do have updates of sorts along with a few things on my mind.
As I write this, I’m sitting in my very own cubicle at work (which I finally got after over four weeks of working here!), and I must say, I do love it. Not only do I have my own computer, but I have my own personal phoneline! Not too shabby, eh? I’m enjoying my job, and I keep hoping that the eight-week postion will turn into something more because I’m nowhere near ready to leave; plus, I dread a job hunt in this economy.
Speaking of job hunt, Josh is still unable to find one. He has searched daily, and there literally is nothing hopeful. I think he is going to a career center today in hopes of finding something, even if it is a factory job of sorts–hey, it’s better than nothing! Like I keep telling him, it will only be temporary. We both plan to go back to school, and we’ll be on our way to wonderful careers in several years. Though he is out of a job at the moment, everything is quite alright. I’m making decent money now, so we are living fine. It helps that we’re still living with his parents, so our bills are minimal. Soon, we’ll be living in their basement, and we’ll have our very own space.
Moving to the basement was the plan all along, but it needed to be finished, and plans were halted momentarily. Last week, though, Josh and his uncle spent a day clearing out everything; this week, they’re going to be painting and eventually, they will start the wiring process before building walls. We’re going to have a bedroom, living room, and kitchen (and probably a bathroom with shower in the future), so it will be like our own little apartment. It will be nice to get out of the bedroom and into our own space.
Luckily, I’ve been optimistic lately, and I know most of it has to do with having such a great job. I’m even considering changing my major to something in human resources or business so that I can stay in this field (with higher pay, of course). I actually filled out my fafsa and received a letter stating that the state is willing to give me a grant of $765 each semester, so that is a huge weight lifted off my shoulder! I’m still hoping to take a class or two this summer (in which I will have to pay myself), but that money will be great toward the fall and spring semesters.
In other news, I want to mention a little writing project that is being started by Ashley over at Writing to Reach You. She can explain it best, so take a look at her posts on the subject. The blog will be launched on Monday, so expect a link.

I am glad that you are going back to school… have I mentioned that?
I think it is a wise decision these days. And it’s so important to be strategic about it too. Meaning I would love to be an English major or Spanish major or something like that (since English, literature and languages were always my best subjects and virtual no-brainers for me) but I know that I will probably be paying a lot of cash and then, in the end, I won’t be as sure of finding a job as with physician’s assisting (the market is really good for them!) have you spoke to your school’s advisers yet? They have been SUCH a big help to me, and you are paying for them anyway… Anyway, good luck!
Although it has definitely been a challenge (financially and otherwise), going back to school has been the best step forward I’ve taken in awhile. I highly recommend it.
And good luck to Josh on his job hunt! Yours sounds like a keeper and I hope it works out that way!
Congrats on the new gig! And tell Josh to keep his chin up. Something has to pop up soon!
i am glad things are going well for you for the most part. the basement sounds wonderful. i’m living in a tiny space to save money now and oh i can’t wait to be able to spread out again.
Good to hear you are getting your own little space! It will feel like being out of their house but you’ll definetly be saving money on bills while going back to school. Would it be possible for Josh to go back to school now instead of looking for a job so he would be in a better position when the economy turns around?
Yay for optimism! and I don’t know how much of a commute Josh is wanting to make but Convergys in Chattanooga (where I work) is hiring. It’s a call center, customer service for DirecTV. The pay is pretty good, excellent benefits and really awesome overtime (with stipends!!) I can refer him if he wants to look into it…
I always enjoy reading your stuff!
