It’s All Natural

by Megan on May 20, 2009

Like Alana from Good Girl Gone Blog, I’m constantly told that I look twelve (fourteen, if I’m lucky), and it gets old quick. I’ve always looked younger than my age, and people have been telling me so since I was literally twelve. (Back then, I looked ten, so I guess I’ve aged only two years in a literal eight years. Hmph.) I sometimes wish I looked older–well, my age. At least. It’s great to know, though, that when I’m fourty, I’ll look thirty. (They constantly tell me that, too.)

How do I keep myself from looking my age or older than I am? I don’t do anything too special, honestly. I mean, I don’t smoke (never have), and I don’t go out partying all the time (though there’s nothing wrong with it), so I guess that helps. I have never dyed my hair (though I do straighten it, so that’s killing it just as bad); I also never wear make up. (Sure, I used to … but I realized I was okay without it. Husband doesn’t like it, anyway.) Though I don’t wear make up, I do try to wear something on my lips to keep them soft. Obviously, when I came across the giveaway on the Alice blog to win shea butter lip balm from Perfect Organics, I had to enter. To enter, I had to answer the question What are your spring-time beauty rituals? I figured I’d share them with you as well.

I always wash my hair when I first get in the shower (I use Aussie shampoo & conditioner right now, but I like to change it up every time I buy shampoo), then I wash my face. Browsing around Etsy, I found a soft, whipped facial creme with ground walnut shells and tea tree oil for $7.50. It’s amazing. The tea tree oil smells wonderful, and the walnut shells make my face unbelievably soft. It also gets rid of any pimples sneaking their way onto my face.

Next, I use a honey whipped cream soap that has sweet almond oil and vitamin E oil (also from Etsy for $5.99 for 4 oz.) to make my body super soft. It, too, smells delicious! (There are several other scents as well.)

Finally, after getting out of the shower, I cover my body in Burt’s Bees Radiance body lotion. It smells lovely (see the trend here?), and it gives my body a natural glow while moisturizing. No kidding, this lotion contains mica, which is a light reflecting mineral, and it will make your skin sparkle. Literally.

Ooh fun. Now I want to shop on etsy instead of working. I’m going to get frickin fired!

People tell me I look like I’m twelve all the time! Honestly hearing the phrase “you’ll love it when your older” does not help me now. I’d love to look a bit like my age for once. But I’m resigned to being carded throughout my entire life I suppose.

I’ve never been big on bath or beauty rituals. I have this phobia of soaking in the tub, like a slew of germs are waiting to cover me. I’m like a half germophobe because I enjoy gardening and other dirty activities.

@Alana: It’s so easy to get caught up in Etsy shopping!

@Ellie: I actually never take baths either. I always shower. I just don’t want to bathe in my own filth (Okay, so I’m not that dirty at all)… but I think a bath every once in a while is nice.

Oh! That whipped cream soap looks wonderful! And I love etsy – it’s one of the few places you know your getting handmade quality, and helping out the little people. Yay :)

I wish I could not wear makeup, but my acne and skin are way too bad. I wish it weren’t though.
