TMI Thursday

TMI Thursday

Last week, I told you about the time I peed my pants while folding the American flag. (Graceful, eh?) This week, my story is similar. Another pee-in-the-pants story. (I promise, I only peed my pants these two times! …I think.)

When I was growing up, Dad was a truck driver. For a little while, he drove a gas tanker locally, but then he got a job delivering stuff all over the country. I begged him to let me go with him once, and before the summer ended, he let my sister and I ride with him on a trip. It wasn’t very far, but it was far enough to get excited.

Dad drove one of those big trucks with the huge cab (it had a bunk bed in it!), and when we slept at night, my sister and I got the top bunk and Dad got the bottom. One night, while we were at a truck stop, I woke up with the serious urge to pee. Back then, Dad was a heavy sleeper, so even though I was practically slapping him in the face, he wouldn’t budge. I thought, maybe I’ll just go outside and squat.

I made my way to the front of the cab, and peeked out the curtains (yeah, the windows all had awesome curtains for privacy), and I saw a man walking around. It was like two in the morning, people! I was creeped out. There was no way I was going to get out of that truck and squat with some creepy man walking around.

After several attempts of trying to wake Dad up again, I became frustrated. I sat on the passenger seat in the front of the cab, trying to hold it. I was in tears by this point. Finally, I just let it out. Right on the seat. Ah, relief.

After that … Well, I’m pretty sure I changed my clothes (though I can’t really remember that part–let’s just hope I did) and went back to bed. I’m not sure if Dad even knew what had happened because I can’t recall him ever saying anything about it.

It’s All Natural

by Megan on May 20, 2009

Like Alana from Good Girl Gone Blog, I’m constantly told that I look twelve (fourteen, if I’m lucky), and it gets old quick. I’ve always looked younger than my age, and people have been telling me so since I was literally twelve. (Back then, I looked ten, so I guess I’ve aged only two years in a literal eight years. Hmph.) I sometimes wish I looked older–well, my age. At least. It’s great to know, though, that when I’m fourty, I’ll look thirty. (They constantly tell me that, too.)

How do I keep myself from looking my age or older than I am? I don’t do anything too special, honestly. I mean, I don’t smoke (never have), and I don’t go out partying all the time (though there’s nothing wrong with it), so I guess that helps. I have never dyed my hair (though I do straighten it, so that’s killing it just as bad); I also never wear make up. (Sure, I used to … but I realized I was okay without it. Husband doesn’t like it, anyway.) Though I don’t wear make up, I do try to wear something on my lips to keep them soft. Obviously, when I came across the giveaway on the Alice blog to win shea butter lip balm from Perfect Organics, I had to enter. To enter, I had to answer the question What are your spring-time beauty rituals? I figured I’d share them with you as well.

I always wash my hair when I first get in the shower (I use Aussie shampoo & conditioner right now, but I like to change it up every time I buy shampoo), then I wash my face. Browsing around Etsy, I found a soft, whipped facial creme with ground walnut shells and tea tree oil for $7.50. It’s amazing. The tea tree oil smells wonderful, and the walnut shells make my face unbelievably soft. It also gets rid of any pimples sneaking their way onto my face.

Next, I use a honey whipped cream soap that has sweet almond oil and vitamin E oil (also from Etsy for $5.99 for 4 oz.) to make my body super soft. It, too, smells delicious! (There are several other scents as well.)

Finally, after getting out of the shower, I cover my body in Burt’s Bees Radiance body lotion. It smells lovely (see the trend here?), and it gives my body a natural glow while moisturizing. No kidding, this lotion contains mica, which is a light reflecting mineral, and it will make your skin sparkle. Literally.

What are YOUR beauty rituals? (Be sure to enter the giveaway, too!)

The House

by Megan on May 19, 2009

With the one year wedding anniversary on the horizon, I’m getting extremely anxious about moving into The House. (Oh, look at me, plugging my own posts!)

We should be able to move sometime in June (or earlier?), but since the renters are still in the house, we’re unsure of the exact date. IT’S MAKING ME CRAZY. Unfortunately, I have to be patient because the renters are moving out due to a less than ideal situation. I’m just extremely jittery about it. Even after they move out, we’ll still have some painting and cleaning to do before we can move in. Luckily, most of our things are still packed and in the in-laws’ basement, so it won’t be that difficult to actually move.

Once we move in, it’s going to be a while before things start feeling home-y. Even though we have a bar in the kitchen, we still want a small dining room table:

(Oh, how I love you, table.)

Once that is purchased, we’ll need a new bedroom suite and maybe even living room furniture that matches. One of the bedrooms will be a “creative room” for Josh to keep his guitar as well as for me to learn to sew and do some painting … another bedroom will be an office/guest bedroom, so we’ll need to get a desk of some sort. There are so many things I can’t wait to do, and I just want to get started. (And it’d be nice to take some pictures of the house to show you! I think the renters might get a little annoyed if I stand outside taking pictures.)

In the meantime, I’m trying to think of ways to feed my need to decorate … It’s impossible. I’m nearly tempted to by every household item on Etsy just in case.

Dress Me Up!

by Megan on May 18, 2009

I have a dilemma, and I need your help. My one year wedding anniversary is coming up (June 17), and Husband and I have possible plans of going out to a nice dinner at Hennen’s in Downtown Chattanooga.. However, I have nothing nice to wear. It’s not an extremely fancy place, but I’d still like to wear a nice dress. Husband isn’t any help–he’s only seen me in two dresses (and one was my wedding dress), so he has no idea. Honestly, I’m not much of a help to myself since I rarely ever wear dresses.

I’m going to throw a few ideas out there, and then maybe you can help. I don’t want anything too expensive. (Hopefully less than $50, honestly.) I’ll still need to purchase shoes as well because all of my heels are gone–except the white pair I wore to my wedding. Since I’m extremely petite (5’1″ and ~105 lbs … and I’m small-chested), I can’t wear anything too long; Husband doesn’t like anything too short either, though. So, I’m thinking just above the knee, perhaps? Also, I’m extremely fair-skinned, so I don’t look great in yellow. (Is this too picky?)

Husband and I actually agreed to liking this dress, and since it’s only $28.50 at Macy’s. It’s not in my size, though, and I’m not sure where the nearest Macy’s is–if we even have one nearby!

Forever 21 has a dress that I love (for only $24.80!), but I’m not sure if the color would wash me out too much. (Like I said, fair-skinned.)

I’m also trying to stay far away from big prints, but I’m open to ideas. Let me know what you think!

(Maybe Apricot could help out on this one?)
