In which I post embarrassing photos of myself

by Megan on June 9, 2009

When I was a freshman in high school, I had long hair. I was known for my long hair. I had never dyed it (still haven’t), so it was naturally brown, and it was naturally curly (because it took two hours to straighten it). I loved my hair, but I’d have to load it up with product to keep it from frizzing into something very scary.

Yep, that’s me. I think that’s my freshman year of high school. Obviously, I was going through a phase.

After I broke up with my boyfriend of two years (the summer after my sophomore year), I decided to chop it off. Hair cuts are the best form of venting, in my opinion. I was too afraid to go extremely short, so I went a little past my shoulders.

I bought that “homegirl” shirt because Husband (before he was Husband or even Boyfriend) went through a period of calling me that. Yeah, I had a huge crush.

I can’t remember exactly when I went for The Big Cut. I know I wanted layers. With my shoulder-length hair, I had become and expert at straightening it, but I wanted shorter hair to make the straightening time become shorter. So, I just went for it.

Is it just me or do I look considerably different in this picture than I do in the first? It really amazes me how much I’ve changed in a few years. (This was taken over a year ago.)

Right now, my hair is almost to my shoulders again. I’m horrible at scheduling hair appointments, and even though I promise to get a trim every six weeks, I never do. (My last hair cut was in March, I believe.) Monday Tomorrow, though, I’m going for another big chop. I’m honestly terrified of anything new. I thought about doing bangs, but I’m too afraid. So, after much consideration, I think I want to go with something similar to Ginnifer Goodwin’s look via He’s Just Not That Into You.

What do you think? I’m open to suggestions!

What products do you use for straightening? I’ve only done it once (well, my stylist did it) as my hair is obviously crazy SUPER curly but it actually straightened nicely. I was thinking of getting the knack of straightening and then chopping it into something dead cute as well…I just have to get the hang of straightening first.

My stylist used a CHI which is pretty expensive but, from the results, worth it. What do you use?

@Alicia: I use an Infiniti by Conair straightener (http://infiniti.conair.com/). Try to find something with gold plates because gold is better at holding heat. (Ooh, I sound smart!) For product, I rarely used anything at all for years. After seeing dead ends and split ends, though, I started to use a straightening serum. (I don’t use it every day, though.) I’ll have to get back to you later on what it’s called. Since I straighten my hair daily, it has become a lot easier to straighten.

I like Ginnifer Goodwin’s hair and I think it’d look good on you! If you want bangs, you could always get long bangs instead of really short bangs. Long bangs are easy to work with and use bobbypins if you don’t want it in your face that day.

I suggest getting bangs! I just did it (I’ll post photos soon) and they’re super versatile. I can pin them up or wear them parted in the middle, or do a big side swoop. It’s less drastic than a major hair cut, but it looks major…if that makes sense.

Yes, yes, and YES! I LOVE Gennifer Goodwin and her hair and really, everything about her. So yes, get that haircut!

@Alicia: Okay, I made Husband look to see what straightening serum I use. It’s Redken smooth down heat glide. (http://www.redken.com/products/haircare/smooth-down/smooth-down-heat-glide) The tiniest drop will work!

@steph anne & @alana: I’ve always had a sort of bang that swept to the side. I’m just not sure how a full bang across my forehead would look. I may keep debating and try it next time!

@Rachie: I think she’s great, too! She looks awesome all the time.

I love Ginnifer’s hair! I’ve always loved to change my hair. I grow it out and then cut it, but I’ve had the same style and length for a quite a while now. Boring.

I have an inverted bob, it’s a simliar length as Ginnifer’s only a bit longer in the front and shorter in the back. I love, love, love it! By far the best haircut I’ve ever had! When I first got it done the back was BARELY shorter than the front, but now, almost 2 years later, it’s pretty extreme length difference! Haha. Might be something to try? It’s easy to style and I think it would look good with your face shape!

Thanks :o ) I think I’d need some product–I have fragile hair that, despite having a lot of it, is kind of fine. And gets damaged easily. I think when mine was straightened we used 2 different ones, one being a CHI product that was awesome, and then some other one that I don’t remember. I just know my hair took a lot.

I love Ginnifer Goodwin. I think this cut would look fantastic on you!

I love it! I say go for it!

Ginnifer Goodwin’s haircut was fantastic! I actually just finished watching the movie. Of course I absolutely loved every minute of it.

I completely agree with you on the bangs! When I was younger I had a straight across bang and hated it. Oh the things your parents will make you endure when you don’t know any better. I vowed never to repeat that mess. For the past few years I’ve gone with a sweep bang. I must say that I love the longer length on mine. I’ve always feared the idea of not being able to really do much with short bangs and having to live with them.

Go with what you think you’ll like! I’m sure that your haircut will turn out great!
