It’s been over a month since I last posted about my etsy shop, a pinch of sugar. Since then, I haven’t been able to get much done with it aside from trial & error with different scrubs. I may sell a few sampleĀ items here and there in the near future, but soon, I hope to order another large shipment of supplies so that I can really start selling.
In the meantime, I’ve been thinking of package ideas. When it comes to that, I’d like to keep things simple for the most part. I bought some hemp to tie around the jars in a beautiful bow for now. I’m not sure if I want to get labels for the jars that show the ingredients or not. Since the labels will most likely have to be taken off, anyway (due to the ink smearing in the shower), I may just print out little cards that contain all of the ingredients and recommended usage of each product. Any suggestions?
I’ve also taken a few practice shots of a vanilla sugar scrub that I made for my mom. I think they turned out well, but I may need to do some cropping and editing. I’m still unsure if I want to keep the photos simple or dress them upĀ a bit.

What do you think? Any suggestions about packaging, labels, and/or photos? Should I keep things simple and lovely, or make things a bit more ellaborate?
In other news, maybe I should talk Husband into starting an etsy shop? He has a bit of a talent when it comes to carving/whittling.

I think simple photos (the way you have them here) look pretty good to me! Love the hemp bow tied around the jar.
Does Husband think he could make a custom, wooden, tobacco pipe? I can’t find a lot of them on Etsy that I really like so I’m looking for someone who can help. The boyfriend collects pipes!
I really like the simple packaging. To be honest, the more packaging you include, the more packaging people will most likely throw away. Keep it simple! And yes, I think the cards instead of an ingredient label will be a good idea.
I like the simple packaging, simple photo’s idea! Looks great!
I can’t believe Husband carved that!!! That’s fantastic, he SHOULD start an Etsy shop!
Nice work, Husband. And Megan, I’m so excited for your Etsy shop to open!
So pretty! I likethe first photo you posted! mmm so pretty!
I really like the packaging!
Yes, you should definitely talk your husband into starting an Etsy shop. And, you know, since you’re already trying to convince him of that, you could mention something about whittling me a wand. For, uh, you know…decorative purposes.
You are both gifted.
I think putting a card with the ingredients in the box/shipment is key – people are big on knowing the ingredients of what they’re using. I’ve ordered three or four things off Etsy, and every time I usually get a little card or note. It’s a nice touch. I like the ribbon idea – maybe something a bit more girly would be fun? There’s some really amazing ribbons in fabric stores.
Oh, and wtf? Your husband whittled that? SO cool!
