Loki Pt. II (With Pictures!)

by Megan on September 2, 2009

After reading Je’s post about her cat, Stella, I decided to do my own about Loki.

  • To put it simply, he’s cheap. I bought him a nice, cozy bed and he’d rather sleep on an old blanket. Not only that, but he’d rather play in a cardboard box or with plastic bags than with the little, toy mice we buy him.
  • Husband has spoiled him. I leave for work around 5:30 a.m., and Husband will wake up and clean his litter box. On the weekends, Loki will sit outside our door and whine until it’s clean. Husband cleans it three times a day, so he won’t use the bathroom unless his box is clean.
  • In the month that we’ve had him, he’s gained about a pound. I’m not sure if that’s normal or not. He looks healthy, though. (Can you believe he’s ONLY 3.6 pounds. Crazy!) He’s so little, but to me, he’s growing so fast. He’ll be getting fixed soon, I think.
  • When we went on our mini-vacation this past weekend, we left him at home. We bought two giant litter boxes so that he would actually use the bathroom. We also got him an automatic feeder, and it worked so well! I was worried sick, though, and I was so excited to get home to him. Next time, he’s coming with us.
  • Every morning, he wakes up with me (at 5:00 a.m.). He follows me around while I get ready for work. Before I leave, I give him a vitamin and three small treats to keep him from following me out the door. He expects this. (I’m worried he’s catching on, though.)
  • He LOVES “wet food.” (His favorites so far are chicken, beef, or tuna. He doesn’t seem to be a big fan of whitefish.) I try not to spoil him by only giving it to him maybe 2 times a week, and I only use half of a can at a time, but he chows down. The he licks himself clean and takes a nap.

  • He likes to lick hair. The other day, he was just licking away at Husband’s hair. He tries to chew on my hair sometimes.
  • He’s really sweet when I first come home from work; then he attacks my feet.
  • He likes to latch onto my leg sometimes as I walk through the house.
  • Did I mention he likes plastic bags? I did? Well, it’s okay to mention it again because he really likes them.
  • He sleeps in the weirdest/cutest postions.

  • When Husband is playing guitar, Loki sits next to the amp and just stares at it. Then he usually goes to the futon in the room and naps. Actually, anytime I have music on, he just stares at where it’s coming from. I think it relaxes him a bit.
  • I have this blanket that he loves. I actually call it his “mommy blanket” because he likes to cuddle up to it and suck on it when he’s trying to sleep. (Oh yeah, he sits in weird postions, too.)

(I apologize for the bad quality cell phone pictures.)

  • I’ve realized since having him that having a kid? Would be crazy. Loki, though I adore him, is enough work for now. A cat is much more independent than a baby (duh). I’m definitely not at a place in my life where I’m ready to have kids. Sure, sometimes I have baby fever–uh, don’t we all?–but I’m willing to wait a few or five years.

Do you have a pet (or pets)? Do you, too, feel like they’re your child? What are some of its/their best qualities (and/or worst)?
