Loki Pt. II (With Pictures!)

by Megan on September 2, 2009

After reading Je’s post about her cat, Stella, I decided to do my own about Loki.

loki

  • To put it simply, he’s cheap. I bought him a nice, cozy bed and he’d rather sleep on an old blanket. Not only that, but he’d rather play in a cardboard box or with plastic bags than with the little, toy mice we buy him.
  • Husband has spoiled him. I leave for work around 5:30 a.m., and Husband will wake up and clean his litter box. On the weekends, Loki will sit outside our door and whine until it’s clean. Husband cleans it three times a day, so he won’t use the bathroom unless his box is clean.
  • In the month that we’ve had him, he’s gained about a pound. I’m not sure if that’s normal or not. He looks healthy, though. (Can you believe he’s ONLY 3.6 pounds. Crazy!) He’s so little, but to me, he’s growing so fast. He’ll be getting fixed soon, I think.
  • When we went on our mini-vacation this past weekend, we left him at home. We bought two giant litter boxes so that he would actually use the bathroom. We also got him an automatic feeder, and it worked so well! I was worried sick, though, and I was so excited to get home to him. Next time, he’s coming with us.
  • Every morning, he wakes up with me (at 5:00 a.m.). He follows me around while I get ready for work. Before I leave, I give him a vitamin and three small treats to keep him from following me out the door. He expects this. (I’m worried he’s catching on, though.)
  • He LOVES “wet food.” (His favorites so far are chicken, beef, or tuna. He doesn’t seem to be a big fan of whitefish.) I try not to spoil him by only giving it to him maybe 2 times a week, and I only use half of a can at a time, but he chows down. The he licks himself clean and takes a nap.

  • He likes to lick hair. The other day, he was just licking away at Husband’s hair. He tries to chew on my hair sometimes.
  • He’s really sweet when I first come home from work; then he attacks my feet.
  • He likes to latch onto my leg sometimes as I walk through the house.
  • Did I mention he likes plastic bags? I did? Well, it’s okay to mention it again because he really likes them.
  • He sleeps in the weirdest/cutest postions.

  • When Husband is playing guitar, Loki sits next to the amp and just stares at it. Then he usually goes to the futon in the room and naps. Actually, anytime I have music on, he just stares at where it’s coming from. I think it relaxes him a bit.
  • I have this blanket that he loves. I actually call it his “mommy blanket” because he likes to cuddle up to it and suck on it when he’s trying to sleep. (Oh yeah, he sits in weird postions, too.)

(I apologize for the bad quality cell phone pictures.)

  • I’ve realized since having him that having a kid? Would be crazy. Loki, though I adore him, is enough work for now. A cat is much more independent than a baby (duh). I’m definitely not at a place in my life where I’m ready to have kids. Sure, sometimes I have baby fever–uh, don’t we all?–but I’m willing to wait a few or five years.

Do you have a pet (or pets)? Do you, too, feel like they’re your child? What are some of its/their best qualities (and/or worst)?

Your cat’s adorable! I’d love to have one but my husband’s allergic :( We have 2 pets – a puppy named Chloe and a horse named Ariel. I’ve had them both since they left their moms so I guess I do feel like a parent :) (It drives my husband nuts sometimes!) Chloe’s best and worst quality is the same one – she’s got a ridiculous amount of energy! I wanted a dog I could go running with, go to the park with, play Frisbee with, etc. – I’m an on the go person so I wanted a dog who was the same. She doesn’t stop, though – it’s dead or dead ahead with her. If I’m in bed she’s pawing at me to get me to throw her ball for her. My horse’s best quality is that she’s super smart – she learns new things really quickly, which makes me look like a really good trainer (when I really have no clue what I’m doing!) Her worst quality is that she’s got a stubborn streak – when I have to give her any sort of medicine, it’s a real struggle. I have to do a sneak attack with wormer, putting the tube in the back of her throat and emptying it – and then she won’t come near me. Or accept treats, because she thinks they’re more medicine. Even if I leave them on the ground. And she throws tantrums sometimes. If she’s having a bad day I won’t even try to ride her!

This post reminds me SO much of when Webster was a baby kitty!! He would always follow us around and lick our hair, it was so cute. Eric was also unemployed when we got Webster so he spent ALL day with him and I think that’s why Webster is such a friendly, personable cat now!

I seriously CANNOT believe that Husband cleans Loki’s litter box THREE TIMES A DAY! Wowza. I do Websters every second day or so! Mind you, I do remember that kittens use it a lot more than full grown cats, I think when Webster was that size I was doing it about once a day!

I’m more of a dog person myself, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love kittens too! Wanna send Loki in the mail with my pen pal letter??

Oh he’s so precious!

I have a gecko and she’s my baby. When she eats, she looks so cute because she becomes very focused on her meal and attacks it with a ferocity that I only see in kitties. She’s stubborn, though. She’ll let me pick her up and stroke her for a total of 5 seconds and then she’ll squirm around in my hand until I let her back down. I love her, though. She’s my little queen.

He’s absolutely adorable! Your photos make me want to go get myself another kitty. And my cat would just LOVE that (note the sarcasm). I will say that I love the photo of him slouched against the wall as if he’s kind of sitting but kind of not.

Oh and my cat would much rather sleep on blankets around my place than in a specified bed. He tends to follow the sunshine around the house, maximizing his heat absorption. And the other good thing is that he doesn’t like fancy toys. The only toys he’s ever played with from the store is this little circular plastic toy with a ball that he can push around.

Cats are great!

I’m not a huge cat person but this post about Loki kind of makes me change my mind! I want to cuddle with him. How adorable!

I have a dog, Jack. One of my favorite things he does is the “paw” trick, for snacks usually BUT lately, he’s started doing it if he’s hungry, just throwing his paw out there in the air, and holding it in the air, in position. He also will sleep in his bed all night until about 5 or 6 am and then he’ll jump on the bed with me until I get up. Oh! And he loves his toys. Squeaker toys, rope bones, rawhides, whatever it is, he loves ‘em. And yes, puppies & kittens are enough like kids that I don’t need one for quite sometime =)

Oh he’s so adorable. I can’t wait until I move out and we get our cat. My fiance is going to find this post adorable. He’s a huge cat lover. Loki sounds like a lot of fun.

I’m more a dog person, but I’m so jealous right now, because Loki is adorable.

SO CUTE! I *wish* I had a cat! Stuff like this is why.

I’m a little late to the game – but I’m SO glad you did this post too!!! And I freakin love pose he’s doing in his cat bed. My parents’ cat props himself up like that too. So funny.
