I’m a spender. I mean, for the most part, money burns a hole in my pocket. Or bank account, rather–I hardly ever carry cash anymore. Scary thought.
Anyway, I’m finally admitting to it. While I make a decent amount of money, and I always pay my bills, I have nothing in savings. This bothers me. Husband, though he hasn’t had a job since last year has more money in savings than I do. (Oh yeah, I probably forgot to mention that Husband now has a part-time job at a music store. I’m excited for him! Since he plays guitar, he loves it.)
I’m proud to say that I’m pretty much not in debt. By pretty much, I mean that the only debt I have, really, is my student loan (which adds up to a little over $2,000, so it’s not that bad). I do have bills, though. Electricity, cell phone, internet, and Directv. Plus groceries. (And groceries? Yeah, we spend about $250 every two weeks. So basically nearly $500/month. Is that bad?) :grins sheepishly: Luckily, my bills take up less than half of my paycheck. However, that means I’m left with a lot of money to spare (around $500+ every two weeks, which is a lot to me since I was used to being paid $6/hour when I worked PART-TIME at the hotel).
I’m finally realizing just HOW MUCH money I could have in savings by now. I’ve worked at my lovely job since the end of January–nearly nine months. So, at $1000 extra every month–if I were to have put all of that in savings, I would be at nearly $9000. Bye bye, student loan. Hello, Nikon D5000. Hello, Disney trip. Hello, money. Unfortunately, it’s not the case as I have NO money in savings.
What have I spent all of this money on, you ask? Well, Etsy.com is so tempting–I just can’t help myself. Clothes, I love them. Oh, and I’m about to buy a Macbook. (Hey, I’m using my financial aid, though, so that’s totally okay! It’s like it’s being bought for me!)
Ugh.
Basically, this is what I’m saying: I’m going to start saving. I mean it. Next week, I’m opening up a savings account, and I’m going to put as much money as possible in it every paycheck. I want a vacation with Husband (Disney!), and we can’t afford it unless we save, since it’s going to cost in and around $1500 to stay for 4-5 days like we want. Not only that, but I want to have a cushion. If something happens, I want to be okay with money.
Hold me accountable, people.
