Last Thursday, I was able to finally make it down to my school’s main campus (which is an hour from where I live) to get my financial aid check. By Friday morning, the check was in the bank, and by Friday afternoon, I had ordered something that I’ve wanted for a long time.

Hello, lovely. I opted for a 320gb HD with 4gb RAM. Not only that, but I’m getting iWork pre-installed as well as Microsoft Office 2008. I’ve never used a Mac before, so I’m looking forward to learning.
My computer is “prepared for shipment” at the moment, so I’m expecting it to arrive in a few days. Any advice from Mac users?

I need advice too! I’m thinking of getting myself one soon. I can’t wait to see your new baby!
You will love it! Initially, it can be a little frustrating because it IS different, but once you get used to it you will be glad you switched.
The one thing that really bugged me when I first started using Macs was that they don’t have a two mouse buttons. If you hold down the apple key while you click though, it’s the same as right-clicking on a PC.
Enjoy! Shoot me an email if you’d like more info or have any questions, I’ve been using Macs for 4+ years now
.
yeah hardest thing about it is the right click, and even that just takes a few mins to get used to. any specific questions, ask me. you’ll be taken aback by the pure ease in doing anything and everything.
Have fun!! I’ve been mac side for 5 years now and I love them, if you ever have a question don’t hesitate to get in touch =)
Get ready to fall in lurve.
The most helpful shortcuts:
1) Make sure you set your setting so you can “right click” with two fingers
2) Adjust your settings so you can do “corners”
3) apple + = zoom, apple – makes things smaller
4) apple option esc = force quit
5) apple shift 4 = screen shot
Ummm those are a few of the ones I use the most every day- feel free to bug me if you have any more questions
Welcome it into your home like a little brother or sister. I don’t have a lot of tips; I don’t think you’ll have any trouble adjusting.
Aw, I miss being in college and getting my financial aid checks!
You’ll love your Mac! I found some helpful and awesome tips here – http://www.smashingmagazine.com/tag/mac/
I recently bought a MacBook Pro for myself. I first started to use Macs at work. I’m in IT support and I fell in love. As of now, I’m officially off the PC except for when I run it on my Mac.
Just a quick piece of advice. I’m not sure you can do this on a MacBook but on mine I have enabled the right click feature. All I did was go into the trackpad settings under system preferences. Enable the bottom right corner of the trackpad for the right click. I’ll never be able to live without that. I do love to double click the tops of windows and have them minimize! Great feature!
Hope you enjoy your Mac!
I actually did not like the Mac I used while working at a certain design firm. It may have had something to do with switching back and forth from PC to Mac all freaking day, which, of course, made it impossible to really get used to it.
However, over a year later I am still stuck with Vista on my laptop and HATE it. I’ve been kind of thinking about getting a Mac instead, but I may just buy a Dell online and downgrade to XP.
Anyway, all that to say good luck and pleasepleaseplease let us know how you like it and how the switch goes!
how exciting!
