One of those Life Updates

by Megan on September 15, 2009

In a couple weeks, the outage at work begins. Every other week, I’ll be working my normal hours; on the other weeks, I’ll be working 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Even though I’m not missing the night shift, I’m welcoming the change of pace. For a while now, I’ve felt like my life has fallen into a routine, and it’s tiring.

During the week, I wake up at the ungodly hour of 5:00 a.m. I ready myself for work, and I arrive at my office around 6:00 a.m. Being able to leave work at 2:30 p.m. is nice, but I wouldn’t mind sleeping an extra hour or two. On the days I’m working at three, I plan to wake up by 8:00 a.m., which is still “early” to some, but it will feel like sleeping in to me. Plus, I don’t want my entire day wasted away with sleep.

I’ve been enjoying school lately. Organization is a necessity when it comes to online classes, and luckily, my classes are pretty straight forward.

My history class has been simple so far, consisting of a weekly activity based on the lesson; my first test will take place next week, and though I’m nervous about it, I’m put at ease by the fact that I’ll be able to use my book.

My English/Lit class is okay; though I love English and writing, I’m not a big fan of some of the reading we have to do. I’ll get through it, though, and the next module is poetry, so I’m excited about that.

Child Growth & Development is probably my favorite of the three. So far, I’m doing well with all of the assignments. Next, I have to take part in a discussion in which I summarize an article from a Scholarly journal that has something to do with child developmental research. I found an article titled, “Improving Social Initiations in Young Children with Autism Using Reinforcers with Embedded Social Interactions.” I’m hoping it works for the discussion. Other than that, my first test for this class is Friday.

My brain is ready for the extra sleep I’ll be getting in the coming weeks.

That’ll be a nice change for you with your schedule. I’d do the same if I were you by waking up at 8AM to get things done and enjoy the day before work.

I work 3-midnight all through the school year and it’s surprisingly not that terrible. I find it makes getting things done a lot easier than working day shift. And it makes it possible for me to be a full time student.
