I woke up this morning to 29° F weather. (Now, I know that most of you have been enduring much colder weather than I, but it was just 70° F last week!) I made sure I piled on the layers before heading out the door, but I realized that I need more winter-friendly clothing. I’m excited for the holiday season that lies just around the corner. And snow. Please, mother nature, gives us some snow.
Since I’m back on my 7am-3pm shift, Husband had to take Loki to his 8:30 a.m. appointment at the vet. He’s getting fixed today, so he wasn’t allowed to eat or drink anything after ten last night. When I was getting ready for work this morning, he followed me around, sadly. And he looked hungry. It was all I could do not to sneak him some food.
After 8:30, Husband sent me a text saying that Loki was miserable on the way to the vet due to the cold temperatures outside. Not only that, but Husband felt like a parent not wanting to leave his child alone. Unfortunately, he had to leave, and now I feel sad imagining how completely terrified Loki must be. Not only that, but they told Husband we might be able to pick him up today (after they told me we’d be able to pick him up for sure by six this evening).
How do you feel after having to leave your pet at the vet’s office? What did you do to make him/her more comfortable after their arrival home?

I felt awful when I had to leave Chloe at the vet when she got spayed. She had to fast 12 hours too and I had to walk the poor puppy to the vet’s office – she kept trying to pull me to puddles so she could have a drink! It was awful! She had to stay overnight and had to wear a cone on her head for almost a week – she was miserable. We bought her a new bed for when she came home and my husband and I each took some time off work so at least one of us could be home with her at all times
Don’t they just look so helpless when you leave them? That’s the part that kills me. I hate to leave my kitty overnight at the vet’s office. But the good thing is getting them back home where you can give them an extra helping of love.
Aw, it’s such a hard thing- I think that the most helpful thing is just, as much as you can, not being nervous when you’re dropping them off so they don’t pick up on your being stressed & get worked up themselves.
I love our vet- the whole practice is up and down amazing. While I always find it hard, when you pick them up you are definitely the ‘hero’. As long as they have a nice quiet, comfy place to curl up Loki will be happy to be home & back to normal after a little while. =)
It is so hard to leave them. He will be fine though. I think they take them back almost right away so he wouldn’t be alone for too long. Afterward, he is just sleepy. They probably want to say maybe just in case something happens and he isn’t having a bad reaction to the medication or something.
Poor Loki!
Aww I TOTALLY remember this feeling from when we took Webster to the vet. Luckily, Webster is the friendliest cat ever so as soon as we handed him over to the technician he curled up in her arms and started licking her face/neck. Haha.
Anyways, AFTER the surgery they called us, said he was all good and we could pick him up after 1 pm. Well, Webster HATES kennels, so when they put him in the big kennel to “rest” he would back himself up to the wall, run and throw himself into the door to try and escape! They ended up putting him in a small kennel inside the big kennel! Haha. So they called back 15 minutes later and said “Actually, you can come pick him up now”. Haha.
Anyways, I know the feeling and I hope Lokie heals up quickly
You’re like me! I LOVE all the seasons our state give us so I’m loving the weather out right now but yea, I could definitely use more winter friendly clothing. Shopping spree? I wish!
I was pretty lucky with Quinn, one of the vet nurses there is a family friend, so he was familiar with her. He was also pretty familiar with the vet clinic, because we did puppy training there. It also meant that while he was with them I was getting txt updates, so I knew how he was doing! The txt updates made me feel ALOT better about leaving him there.
Hope things with Loki go well, hopefully they’ll treat him okay and give him a nice warm + comfortable space to recover until you can pick him up!
I baby my dog. And I’m okay with it. And I always feel bad when I have to leave him with the dog sitter, at the vet, and sometimes even when I am going to work! I try to do special things for him here and there so he knows I love him. It’s funny how quickly pets become our children.
I hated leaving my cat overnight at the vet. The next day my roommate and I went to pick him up and they asked us to come in the back and get him ourselves which was unusual. There was a huge warning sign that read, “WILL BITE!” on the cage where my cat was. I was shocked because my cat never bites… I guess he was mad at us for leaving him there.
