Big Plans

by Megan on October 12, 2009

Hello, Monday. We meet again. Can you believe we’re nearly halfway through October already? I mean, honestly … Where does the time go?

October has always been one of my favorite months (aside from my birthday month–December). I absolutely love the changing of the seasons in October. It moves from warmer weather to cooler weather in just a matter of weeks–or even days! The leaves are changing, and with that, Husband and I want to make a few changes. We want to eat healthier; we want to fill our bodies with the nutrients they deserve. When we’re ready to have children, I want my body to be prepared to carry a baby for nine months, healthily.

Husband is incredibly active. He loves to hike and rock climb, and I tend to try my ability to keep up with him on occasion. (Though I’m usually the one on the ground, taking pictures. No way I’m going to be climbing rocks. Let me clarify, though. He climbs rocks without ropes, often called bouldering. He has a “crash pad” on the ground that he lands on if he falls. Freaks me out, no lie.) Anyway, he realized that he needs to eat healthier (more organically, even) if he wants to coninue bouldering, so I’m joining him on this journey.

Luckily, I’ve jumpstarted this healthy-living journey with a detox. (I’m on Day 5, by the way.) Not only that, but I want to start running. I want to ride the bike I bought at the beginning of the year. I want to enjoy waking up early to do yoga.

Life’s hard. We always make these big plans, and some of the time, they don’t work out. We give up or something happens along the way. I want to make this happen, though.

As always, if you have suggestions/advice, send them my way.

7-Day Detox

by Megan on October 8, 2009

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with GNC, nor am I getting any freebies. Their WELLbeING products are just something I wanted to try on my own.

Today, I’m starting a 7-day detox. I’ve been looking into it for some time, and after a trip to GNC last weekend, I found a kit (made specifically for women) that I wanted to try. GNC WELLbeING® be-CLEANSED™ is a 7-day detoxification kit that consists of a liquid body purifier, daily detox pack, and a suggested meal plan for the week. While I won’t be able to strictly stick to the meal plan, I’m going to stay as close to it as possible. I’ll be keeping track of my daily meals here.

GNC has other products for the WELLbeING line, all made for active women. I’m using their multivitamin and a calcium chew, twice daily. I’ve tried other multivitamins in the past, and they always made me feel sick. So far, this one is doing well! I’d like to try some of the other products as well. I found this write-up on it here, if you’re interested.

Have you tried the WELLbeING products? If not, what do you use as a daily multivitamin? Do you have any suggestions for me?

A disclaimer, sort of

by Megan on October 7, 2009

I’ve never been a very opinionated person. It’s hard for me to point out the negative in something, especially if that something is someone else’s pride and joy. If I read a book that I end up not liking, I’m the one saying, “It was a great story, even though the writing wasn’t my style.” I never felt it fair to critique someone’s writing when they had worked so hard on it.

Even with music and movies, I’m not a fan of critique. (Don’t get me wrong, I love reading reviews/critiques; I just can’t dish them out.) Just recently, I bought Ingrid Michaelson’s new album, and it has taken me a while to warm up to it. While the songs are catchy, they’re very different from her first albums. I adore Ingrid Michaelson (I even follow her on twitter), and she has an amazing voice, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed at first listen. However, after a while, I’m okay with it. I realize that artists change, and I still adore her voice.

I always feel sort of bad for artists/actors/musicians/writers. Every time they complete something, it goes through a review process. Even if the majority loves it, there will always be someone “hating” it. I can’t imagine what they go through, having to deal with that on a regular basis. I suppose it just comes with the territory.

Even though I despise giving negative feedback, I’m considering writing reviews every once in a while on this blog. While I’ll mostly review/suggest things I love, I know I’ll run across things I’m not so fond of. I’m just trying to figure out how to deal with those without being incredibly hurtful.

What do you think about reviews?

Currently (With Pictures)

by Megan on October 6, 2009

Oh, hi. I know it’s been nearly A WEEK since my last post, but hey, I’ve been busy. (Not really.) I wrote a paper last week for English. It wasn’t due until Saturday, but I finished it Friday afternoon. (That’s amazing for me, considering the fact that in high school, I usually wrote my papers the morning they were due. I honestly do work best under pressure.) Anyway, for your reading pleasure, I’ve borrowed a “currently” survey from Lauren from Texas.

Current Book(s): I’m in love with memoirs/autobiographies. Right now, I’m reading High On Arrival by Mackenzie Phillips. I also have Rockabye: From Wild to Child by Rebecca Woolf (aka Girl’s Gone Child) on it’s way. CAN’T WAIT.

1

Current Playlist: I have the soundtrack to 500 Days of Summer coming soon, and Ingrid Michaelson’s new cd is playing in my car. However, my iPod is my best friend. Here are a few must-listens (seriously, listen to them): Alanis Morrissette, Azure Ray, Fiona Apple, Iron & Wine, Maria Taylor, Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson, Sigur Ros, Sufjan Stevens, Trespassers William, Zee Avi.

Current Shame-Inducing Guilty Pleasure: Shopping. I’m obsessed with online shopping. It’s a guilty pleasure I can’t rid myself of.

Current Color:  I realize I have a lot of greys, blues, pinks, and browns in my wardrobe. I absolutely love the colors of fall, though. (Red, orange, yellow, brown.)

Current Fetish: Good question. I honestly don’t believe I have any fetishes, unless my love for chocolate is one.

Current Drink: Mountain Dew. I know, gross. I’m about to cut carbonated beverages from my life, though. H2O and juice for this girl!

Current Food: At this exact moment, nothing. I’m craving salads and fruits, though. I need to go shopping.

Current Favorite Show: Hands down, Grey’s Anatomy. Well, that’s my favorite current show. My favorite show of all time? Gilmore Girls.

1

Current Wishlist: Nikon D5000. I will get it by January! I will.

Current Needs: Warmer clothes. The cold weather is sneaking up on me too quickly!

Current Triumphs: Going back to school. I’m doing well. I’m making a B in history at the moment, but I hope to bring that up soon.

Current Bane(s) of my Existence: RAIN! Ugh.

Current Celebrity Crush: Always, Alanis Morissette. Her voice is lovely. Also? I kind of adore Michael Cera as an actor. He has such an awkward-funny personality in all of his movies.

1

Current Indulgence: Cuddling on the couch with Husband while watching hours upon hours of Gilmore Girls.

Current #1 Blessing: Husband. I’m lucky to have such a great guy in my life.

Current Slang or Saying: After watching five full seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, “seriously” has been a term I’ve been known to use often. Also, “Oy, with the poodles already” is a saying I’m determined to use (a la Gilmore Girls).

Current Outfit: I’m honestly a walking ad for American Eagle. I have AE jeans on, an AE tank top under an AE long-sleeve shirt, and an AE hoodie. My shoes are New Balance, though. This is my comfy-wear.

Current Excitement: I’m always excited for the weekend! I’m also excited about all of the babies being born in my family. Husband’s aunt should be having her baby any day now (she was due Sunday); she’s having a girl. Two of my male cousin’s wives are having boys within the next month or two. My aunt (who is practically my big sister, since she’s eight years older than me) is having her first baby in January. Exciting!

Current Mood: Nostalgic with a touch of baby fever.

Current Link: Violence Unsilenced. Maggie, Dammit has created this safe haven for survivors of domestic violence (men and women, alike) to tell their stories. Since President Obama has declared October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I wanted to put my little reminder out there to support these awesome survivors. If you have a story to share, feel free to do so. VU allows anonymous submissions as well.
