In exactly three weeks, I’ll be twenty-one. Since it’s on a Tuesday, I won’t be able to do anything exciting, aside from renew my driver’s license (so that it will no longer say “Under 21 until 12-01-2009″). However, I decided to compile a list of things I’d like for my birthday.
- I’d definitely like to see New Moon. This might actually happen BEFORE my birthday, since it comes out on November 20th. However, there is a new theater in Chattanooga (the first green theater in the world!) that has a VIP room. Where they serve alcohol and snacks.
- I want to buy wine (all by myself!) to make sangria (from the Pioneer Woman’s cookbook) and watch Gilmore Girls and/or movies with Husband.
- I want to see The Nutcracker (performed by the Chattanooga Ballet). It’s not until mid-December, but I’m going to sneak it by as “something to do for my birthday!”
- I want to go to a restaurant and order a drink. (Any suggestions?)
- I want someone to make me a birthday cake of yellow cake with chocolate icing.
- And of course, world peace, more food for the hungry, and a cure for cancer. (No, seriously. I would like all of those. Can anyone get on that for me?)
Obviously, I want to keep it as lowkey as possible. How did you celebrate your 21st birthday?

A low-key birthday sounds fun!
I had a week-long 21st birthday celebration. Drinks at exactly midnight with my parents, dinner and drinks with my friends and then my cousin took my to Atlantic City!
I had a small rained-out BBQ under a marquee in the backyard, a shared party with my sister. Then on the actual day I went out for breakfast with my Mum and boyfriend at the beach, and had a family dinner at home.
I got ridiculously drunk, acted like an idiot and had a severe, severe hangover the next day. Haha.
It seriously says that on your license?? That’s too funny!!! Haha.
Sometimes I wish I had some lush, exotic story I could tell people about my 21st birthday. My first drink was a strawberry daiquiri, which was fantastic. I have a secret love for the fruit drinks. Well I guess it’s no longer a secret.
When I celebrated my birthday, one of my roommates made me a cake in the shape of my cat’s face. The cake was amazing! It had slightly raised, chocolate frosting for fur, lit candles for eyes, rice krispy treats for ears, and pasta for the whiskers. Seriously it was elaborate. I told him he could be on Ace of Cakes.
I know I can’t mail you a yellow cake with chocolate icing but I do make a hell of one so, I could make it for you, take pictures and blog about how good it tastes?
Out of all of those I would most definitely want to see New Moon in that new VIP box seat thingy at the new theatre. That more than anything. I hope you get everything you wish for!
I had an awful 21st birthday that I’m currently in the process of having its memory burned out of my brain. and it’s not because I got completely wasted or hooked up with some loser, it’s because it was my first birthday spent alone doing nothing (my parents and I had moved to a new state about 6 months prior) and I was MISERABLE.
Tips for drinks? I say definitely go for sangria, a mojito (but not at an american chain restaurant, it has to be made the cuban way) or a fruit daquiri.
Yellow cake with chocolate ice cream was always my favorite until I discovered red velvet. YUM!
Fun! I remember ordering my first drink in the US when I was 21 & had been terribly annoyed that I couldn’t drink there for four years while I could at home! I would recommend just something classic with a little mix- maybe a crantini or a cosmo?
A low key birthday sounds perfect!
To celebrate my 21st, I went out with friends, but it turned out that they were more excited about drinking than having fun with me, so I left. lol. Make sure you do what YOU want to do!
Woohoo on becoming 21 soon! I feel old now, haha. I’ll be 25 in December. I celebrated with my family at PF Chang’s since I was home for the Holidays. I’m used to not being able to celebrate with friends since it’s so close to Christmas.
