Wardrobe Love: Help Wanted

by Megan on May 14, 2010

For the next six months, a la Kyla Roma, I’m going to attempt to buy six new dresses. The only dresses currently in my closet are my wedding dress and my high school prom dress. I need to spruce up my wardrobe a bit, so this will be good for me*.

Next month, Husband and I are going on a trip to Asheville, North Carolina for our second wedding anniversary. (I will go into more details as it gets closer.) I’ve been on a search for a dress to take with us in case we go anywhere that is semi-nice, but I wanted something that I could wear again this summer. As I browsed American Eagle’s website (which is where I buy most of my clothes lately, though I’m thinking of going with something more mature, such as Anne Taylor Loft, in the near future), I found a dress that fits my criteria. (I usually don’t like their dresses, so I wasn’t planning on having any luck.) Of course, I fell in love with one dress.

Since the dress is a solid, grey color, I thought a colored shoes would go well with it. Since the only heels I own are black and white (yes, I only own two pairs of heels, and one pair is from my wedding day), I’m going to have to purchase a pair. My budget is low (trying for around $50 or less), and I’ve been told yellow or red would go well with the dress. Any suggestions? I was thinking of something like these Nine West heels, but I’m not sure if the yellow is too bright.

Mostly, I just want to make it dressy enough for a somewhat nice dinner. I’m open to any suggestions for heels (or even flats!) and/or jewelry!

*Don’t worry. I will be posting a picture of myself in the dress, hopefully!

I’d look on the DSW website, they have some great shoes. I think yellow would go nicely, probably better than red. The shoes you chose are cute!

Yellow rocks with gray; it’s very “in” this season. Definitely check out DSW. They have amazing deals! You could also rock a hot pink flat sandal with that as well; there are some at Target for $15 right now.

Ross and Marshalls are also great places to try for bargain shoes…they often have very “in style” stuff for amazing prices. Yellow or red would look great!

I think those shoes would look amazing with that dress! I want that whole outfit for myself.

I agree with the others about Zappos and DSW! I’m not sure about those shoes, they are too bright for me. And that dress is adorable!

I think this dress is postively adorable (it’s AE, so of course I would think so)! I like the yellow heels, but I think the dress would be stunning accented with red. Heels, clutch, necklace–the works. But the bright yellow works too, of course.

oh yes! this is awesome! I had no idea AE had dresses (that weren’t completely high school inspired)! And those shoes are rockin’, I would wear those everywhere.

I agree, it’s a very nice dress and would work casually too. Yellow’s ok but a dark-but-not-too-much red would be better.

The yellow is a bit bright but it will be more subtle with the gray than a black or white. I like them as a nice pop of color. For it being a little dressier, I think a nice gold or silver metallic pop would be nice and with a little shrug and cardigan, that will transition too. I LOVE doing this stuff.

I love those shoes & think they’d go great with the dress! Go for it.

I think bright yellow and grey work wonderfully together! And who doesn’t like a splash of sunshine on their feet – I’m doing sunny yellow toenails right now :)

How much do I heart that grey dress? I’m still here staring at it. :)
