It Feels Like Home

by Megan on June 14, 2010

It’s Monday. We all dread Mondays, right? Especially when you’re in the office by 5:30 a.m. (yes, that was me this morning), and you just really want to be home. I, however, don’t mind so much today because later this week, Husband and I will be making our way to Asheville, North Carolina to celebrate our 2-year wedding anniversary, and I’ll be able to enjoy a 5-day vacation from work. It’s all worth it.

Two years ago, Husband and I woke up the morning after our wedding and made the 3-hour drive to Asheville, where we stayed in a cute bed & breakfast. While not necessarily perfect for a honeymoon (it being very close quarters and all), it was still perfect. The breakfast was absolutely amazing. The room was stunning (with a clawfoot tub and exceptionally comfortable bed)! The owners were friendly and welcoming. It was a wonderful experience.

Last year, we stayed home for our first wedding anniversary. We were just moving into our own house, and we were planning on going back to school, so we didn’t really have time to plan a vacation. This year, though, we were ready to go back to Asheville. It is probably one of our favorite cities–one we’d actually consider moving to one day. This year, we’ve decided to stay in a hotel–Hotel Indigo. It’s atcually a fairly new hotel, maybe around a year old, and it’s in the heart of downtown, so we’ll be able to park the car and walk everywhere we need to go. It’s perfect for us, since most everything we enjoy is downtown, especially the restaurants!

Our favorite part of Asheville is the cuisine. One of our favorite restaurants while we were there was Bistro 1896. We were able to eat outside, and it was beautiful. We’re definitely planning on eating there again. We have a list of a few restaurants that we plant to re-visit, but we’re also looking forward to trying new things now that we know our way around a little better.

After our trip, be prepared for photos and recaps. I’m just so excited to be in a place that feels like a home away from home!

Is there a city that feels like a second home to you?

I’m in it at the moment – if you’d asked me five years ago if I would’ve ever dreamed that we would have stayed in London past 12 months, I would have laughed at you. 2.5 years (3 for the boy) later .. we’re still here. It’s crazy!

I miss my real home, though.

I love anniversary trips! Neil and I were planning to take one for our second anniversary but then my parents took the family to WDW and then this May they took us to Destin and next year they’re taking us on a Disney Cruise soooo I’m thinking we’ll probably get around to it on our 5th anniversary. Have fun you two!

I love Asheville! I haven’t been there since I was a kid but it’s such a beautiful city. I’d have to say that Orlando feels like home to me; hands down my favorite place to be whether it’s at Disney, the beach, my friends house. Just so happy there.

We stayed at a b&b on our honeymoon. I don’t know that I would recommend that to anyone else.. it was a great experience but for a honeymoon not so much…
Savannah, Georgia feels like my second home, and I’d never been there until our honeymoon (which was in September). We will be going back there for our one year anniversary this year, and that will be our third trip. We hope to move there after we finish school. I absolutely love Savannah!
